Learn about Lorna McLeod

I’m Lorna, a qualified and fully certified Integrative Counsellor, and I’m really glad you’re here. Before retraining as a counsellor and psychotherapist, I worked as a Family Support Worker, supporting children, parents and wider families, including safeguarding work. I have also worked with young people in secondary schools and with GP referrals across different age groups.

These experiences have shaped the way I work today. I believe in taking the time to genuinely understand you as everyone is unique, rather than simply focusing on a diagnosis or a particular difficulty. My aim is to create a safe, compassionate and non-judgemental space where you can be supported to make meaningful change.

“You were never meant to fit into someone else’s story. Your journey is uniquely yours, and there is strength in becoming who you truly are.”

My approach

Drawing on a range of therapeutic approaches, including IFS, EMDR, Polyvagal and somatic work, CBT and ACT, alongside other modalities.

I believe that you are the expert in your own unique experience. My role is to work alongside you, helping you understand what is happening, explore what may be underneath it and find practical ways to move forward. As an Integrative Counsellor, I can draw from a wide range of therapeutic approaches rather than using one method with everyone. This allows me to tailor our work to your individual needs, personality, experiences and goals. My approach may incorporate therapies and techniques including Internal Family Systems (IFS), EMDR, Polyvagal and somatic approaches, CBT and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), alongside other therapeutic modalities.

I have a particular fascination with neurobiology and how the brain, nervous system and body work together. I bring this understanding into my practice to help you make sense of not only your thoughts and emotions, but also the physical responses you may experience. We can explore the experiences and emotions that may be affecting you, while also developing practical tools and strategies to help you feel more able to manage life. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. I will work with you at a pace that feels comfortable, creating a supportive partnership where you can feel safe to explore, understand and grow.
